We’re a shop of photographers, from the professional level, to the hobbyist. We create a variety of marketing materials every week for a super photo company, made up of photographers. And if we’re not producing the imagery for projects ourselves, then we’re on the hunt for great work and suggesting appropriate photographers/material.

A lot of us also produce imagery in our spare time, so we thought we’d make our minutes/hours/days spent in Lightroom (RAW editor of choice) a bit more efficient. We’ve used other people’s presets (OPP!) in the past but have had the most success with settings created in-house. And that’s what we’re sharing with you now: 12 Adobe Lightroom presets. But let’s do a preview before you commit (no pun intended, git savvy folk) to anything.

You’ll probably find (as we have over the years) that one preset might look perfect for a certain shot, and horrible for the next. Other presets are wonderful for landscapes, but horrid for facescapes (portraits, yo). OR maybe not. Some of these 12 are practical, others are extreme. So here is a preview. We’ve seen the same preset work magic on one photo and ruin the next. That’s how it goes. I often use these as a baseline and do additional editing, if necessary. These example photos were shot with a Pentax K-01 (an APS-C sensor) and 40mm f/2.8 pancake lens, with natural light (no flash or that other fancy stuff). Above, my friend Keith leads a few of us up a winter summit. And check out our AWP alum Katy, below. No alterations have been made to the photos, aside from applying the preset.

We made a repository for these presets at Github so if you want to make changes, add more presets to the pack, and share, you can! This is an interesting method of using source control for something non-code related that I’ve enjoyed participating in over at The League of Moveable Type. Here are some more previews with various cameras and lenses.
